The 2010 BMW X5 is one neat SUV. It comes with several different engines from a six cylinder gas engine to the 550 horsepower X5M V-8 I can’t even imagine what anybody would need a 550 horsepower SUV for but it is available and their will be some young rich executives that will waste $100,000 on one. The engine of choice for me would be the turbo Diesel and that is what I will discuss in this article. The X-5 is the large of the two BMW SUVs. The 2010 BMW X-5 Diesel features BMW’S Advanced Diesel engine with Blue performance. This 265 horsepower engine incorporates the same innovations used in the BMW 118d that was awarded the title “2008 World Green Car.” This is a new breed of Diesel power that is quiet and smooth running and doesn’t smoke. It is environmentally friendly. This technology uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid and a Diesel particulates filter to turn the nitric oxides in the exhaust gas into environmentally compatible nitrogen and water vapor. As a result the BMW Advanced Diesel Engine meets emission standards in all 50 states. These engines are very fuel efficient too. The 2010 X-% diesel gets 19 city and 26 on the highway. It is not only fuel efficient, it has plenty of power and torque to pull a good sized boat. It has 265 horsepower and develops 425 lb-ft of torque at 1750-2250 RPM. It is no slouch either and does 0-60 in under 7.0 seconds. The Diesel engine in the 2010 X-5 is a 3.0 liter, 265 horsepower 24 vale in-line 6 cylinder dual overhead cam advanced Diesel that is twin turbocharged. It is an aluminum engine block and has third generation piezocommon rail direct injection. It comes with a six speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with Adaptive transmission Control and StepTronic gear selection including Sport Mode. BMW has always been known for its excellent handling and great brakes. The new X-5 is no exception. You really don’t realize you are driving ans SUV. It has xDrive all wheel drive system; Dynamic Stability Control including Brake Fade Compensation; start-off assist, Brake Drying: Brake standby features with Dynamic Traction Control and Dynamic Brake Control. The X-5 has Hill Decent Control and 4 wheel ABS ventilated disc brakes with front/rear proportioning. Standard tires and wheels are the Star-spoke 18 X 8.5 light alloy wheels with 255/55 run flat all season tires.
